I was delighted to read this week that Waitrose has finally decided to sell only UK lamb. Given the time it has taken I can’t congratulate them but ‘thank you’ Waitrose for finally doing the right thing. It is a shame that they feel they need to phase out imports over a period running into 2021 though.

I recall going into Waitrose Malvern a few years ago and the whole display of ‘fresh’ lamb was from New Zealand.

I am not sure what the other supermarkets policy is on this matter but if they are not already committed to 100% British then I hope they are very soon. Over 1/3 of Welsh lamb is exported so why on earth do we keep importing so much to consume ourselves.
